An average of 15 trainees work at least two days each week. Some of the trainees received their initial training at Promote Action and Ards New Horizons. They have built on these basic skills to become accomplished, reliable and essential members of the team. Recently other organisations have also provided trainees. For example, Worktrack students from North Down and Ards Institute have enjoyed particular success and several have moved into employment. One trainee who moved to work as a Commis Chef in a major hotel said that Daisies had provided the vital stepping stone to employment by extending his experience and building his self confidence.
Clifton Special Care School has also successfully placed trainees with Daisies Daisies is a preferred training company for individuals who want to prepare for, or experience work in a commercial kitchen which provides good support and offers challenges and the opportunity for unique personal development. The trainee team carries out a wide range of duties working under supervision. Each person has dedicated tasks. The variety of jobs available has helped build a multi skilled workforce capable of helping with the many activities at Daisies. While some prefer food preparation, others like being in out in the café meeting the public. This has greatly increased their self confidence and self esteem. In addition to basic hygiene training, some of the trainees have successfully completed Welcome Host training – a customer service award from the NI Tourist Board to ensure quality standards for customers. The original trainees who are still with Daisies have experienced considerable personal, social and vocational skills development which has far exceeded the expectations of the Trust as well as their families. |
